Boat Pad vs. RV Pad: Do You Need Different Concrete?

South Lake County sits among a genuine chain of lakes — Lake Louisa, Lake Minneola, Little Lake Harris, and more — so boat and trailer storage is a real, common need here, not an afterthought. And yet almost every cost guide we found treats a "boat pad" as just another name for an RV pad. That's not entirely wrong, but it's not the whole picture either.

Where the Market Gets It Wrong (or Just Simplifies)

Same category, different loads

The reason boat pads and RV pads get lumped together is understandable: both are concrete pads holding a heavy, wheeled load in one place for extended periods, and both land in roughly the same "6 inches, 4,000+ PSI, reinforced" territory as a starting point. But a boat-and-trailer combination distributes weight differently than a motorhome does — typically concentrated at the trailer's axle(s) and the tongue jack or a set of stands, rather than across a wider wheelbase — and getting the trailer positioned usually means maneuvering it with a tow vehicle rather than driving it in under its own power. Neither of those differences necessarily changes the concrete spec, but they can change things like pad length, turning space, and how close the pad needs to sit to a driveway or gate.

What We Can and Can't Confirm

We did not find a published standard that treats boat pads as a technically distinct category from RV pads — no source in our research breaks out a different thickness, PSI, or reinforcement schedule specifically for boat-and-trailer storage. Until trailer-specific point loads (tongue weight, axle count, stand placement) are actually known for your setup, the safest default is to plan around the same RV-pad baseline: roughly 6 inches, 4,000+ PSI, rebar sized to the load. If your boat and trailer combination is unusually heavy or has an unusual footprint, that's worth a direct conversation rather than assuming the baseline covers it.

The Local Angle That Actually Matters

Drainage, wash-down, and slope near the water

One place a boat pad's use case genuinely differs from an RV pad's: it's far more likely to get hosed down regularly — rinsing off lake water, mud, and vegetation after every outing. That makes the same slope standard used for driveways (roughly 1/8 inch of fall per foot, per cement.org's mix-design guidance) worth double-checking here, so wash-down water actually runs off toward a drainage path instead of pooling against the trailer or running back toward a structure.
